Hi, I’m Jade, the founder of The Juice Jar. I am a ‘foodie’ that wants to supply juice and smoothies to health enthusiasts of Stoke on Trent. The drinks that I provide are made with fresh, quality ingredients. Almost all of the ingredients I use are organic, home grown or locally sourced.
I have been enjoying home made smoothies for the past two years now and the past few months I have experimented with home made juices. I have noticed a big difference in my energy levels and when I thought about it, I realised that many of us simply don’t have the time to prepare fresh juices and this is perhaps when we need them most.
I don’t purchase juices from the supermarkets or health stores because they are preserved to make them last longer. Preserving a juice includes heating and cooling and throughout this process many of the key nutrients are lost, which to me kinda defeats the object of drinking a healthy juice drink.
It is much better to make your own juice or visit a juice and smoothie bar so that your juice can be made fresh and consumed that very day (straight away or within 15 minutes ideally so that you get the most nutritional value) **If you let it sit and expose it to the surrounding air enzymes, phytochemicals and all the good stuff in the juice get oxidized and degrade.
‘Fresh’ juice should be kept refrigerated and consumed within 72 hours!
Juicing is a really efficient way to ensure your body gets the nutrition it needs without the use of synthetic multi-vitamins. As the fibre is removed from the ingredients, the goodness from a freshly made juice is almost instantly absorbed into your bloodstream. This is great news! Your body is able to sustain energy throughout the day, you feel fantastic and your digestive system gets a breather!
**Some recommend drinking on an empty stomach or 20 minutes before food.
- Helps you absorb all the nutrients from your vegetables.
- Reduces the risk of cancer, cardiovascular disease and inflammatory diseases
- Boosts the immune system
- Increases energy
- Removes toxins
- Aids weight loss
- Supports your brain
The idea behind pasteurising is that throughout the heating process, certain viruses and harmful organisms are destroyed. What also gets destroyed is the natural nutritional value found in the healthy foods used to create your juice drink. Additives and preservatives then need to be added. This means that pasteurised drinks can be sitting on the shelf in the supermarket (not even in the fridge) for months! How fresh can these juices really be?
I make juices that are fresh, un-pasteurised and free from additives and preservatives. You get the added benefits of living enzymes from your juice!
Smoothies are a quick and easy way to nourish your body with essential nutrients. When blending, all of the fruit/vegetable is used. Smoothies contain both soluble and insoluble fibre. Soluble fibre slows down the digestion, which basically leaves you feeling fuller for longer, whereas with a juice- the insoluble fibre is removed as the juice is extracted. I like to think of smoothies as a ‘slow and steady’ release of nutrients. The RDA for fibre is 25 grams for women and 38 grams for men.
Provide whole food nutrition as the fibre and nutrients are intact
Slower oxidation (juices oxidize much faster)
Is quicker than juicing and you get more volume
More fibre, more protein and can be used as a meal replacement
Can deliver an extra boost of vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals because it often includes fruit skins and pith
Fresh ingredients grown from my garden and picked the very same day!
Picked from the local allotment
Sourced from the local farmers market
Local store (organic where possible!)
- I limit the amount of fructose (natural sugar in fruit – too much is not healthy)
- I limit the amount of dark green veggies to avoid dull tasting (can be really bitter)
- Predominantly green juices on the menu… great for cleansing, detoxing, circulation and an incredibly energy boost! Green juices won’t spike your blood sugar and insulin levels like fruits, carrots and beets.
